AFTER LOSING THE WRESTLING MATCH, RITIKA PHOGAT COUSIN SISTER OF GEETA AND BABITA PHOGAT COMMITS SUICIDE
On 15th March 2021 (Monday), Ritika Phogat who is 17 years old has committed suicide. Haryana Police reported this news. She is the cousin sister of Babita Phogat and Geeta Phogat, who committed suicide by hanging her life on a ceiling fan.
She was playing the men wrestling, the state level sub-junior, and junior women tournaments. On March 14th (Monday), Ritika lost the final by 1 point in a wrestling tournament in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, and after three days Ritika committed suicide.
After losing the final by 1 point, According to the police, Ritika was very upset. “Ritika, wrestler, and cousin of Babita Phogat, died allegedly by suicide on March 17. The reason behind it might have been her defeat at a recent wrestling tournament in Rajasthan. Investigations are underway," Charkhi Dadri, Deputy Superintendent of police, Ram Singh Bishnoi, told news agency (ANI).
At her uncle’s home, she was found dead. Her uncle is a legendary, master of a wrestler (Mahavir Singh Phogat). Ritika had trained in (Dronacharya) with Mahavir Phogat, the award winner. He also runs a sports academy.
"May Ritika, my little sister, my cousin, rest in peace. This is a very tragic time for my family. Ritika was a very able wrestler... don't know why she did this. Winning and losing is a part of life and no one should take such a drastic step," posted by Geeta Phogat (in Hindi), she said about the family’s grief and shock.
“Ritika’s father and uncle both had been present at the time of the tournament, the family member had never understood that how deeply she had been affected by the loss,” said her cousin Harvindra Phogat.
Ritika committed suicide on Monday (March 15th) at night by hanging herself on a ceiling fan. In Dadri’s Civil Hospital a postmortem was conducted. According to the sources of Zee News.
