“We are temporarily suspending entry into New Zealand for Travellers from India,” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said in a news conference in Auckland.

In India, the second wave of Covid-19 hits very deadly. The daily reported cases pass the peak of the first wave.

“I want to emphasize that while arrivals of COVID from India have prompted this measure, we are looking at how we manage high-risk points of departure generally. This is not a country-specific risk assessment..., “ Ardern said.

Within the borders, New Zealand has virtually eliminated the virus. About 40 days it has not announced any community transmission locally.

Recently, as more people who are infected arrived in New Zealand in which the majority of people are from India, it’s been reviewing its border settings.

Seven cases have been reported till Wednesday, the highest since last October, Ardern said.
