IN PUNJAB, FREE GOVERNMENT BUS TRAVEL FOR WOMEN IS AVAILABLE

From Thursday, women in Punjab can travel free of cost in all the Government-run buses within the state. On Wednesday, the cabinet passed its approval on the program, earlier this month Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced this.



There have been made certain changes in the state budget on the occasion of International Women's Day this year. As Punjab's Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh announced that women all over the state will be provided with free travel services on government buses. 


Later, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said on his social media: "I am happy to share that Punjab Govt has decided to make travel free for women across the state in all Government buses. We have been persistent in our efforts to empower our women and we will continue doing the same. Happy International Womens Day to everyone."


Over 1.31 crore women and girls across the state will get benefited from this scheme.

Punjab has a total population of over 2.77 crores, of which 1,46,39,465 are males and, 1,31,03,873 are females, as per the Census 2011.

Chief Minister has also announced on the same day while presenting the state budget, there will be a new start of eight new schemes in the state that will aim at protecting and empowering women that includes hiring 2047 Lady Teachers, 181 Saanjh Shakti Helpline, and Police Helpdesks.
