UFBU Calls For A Strike On 15 And 16 March 2021


The Bank branches may be closed for 2 days. To protest against the proposed privatization of two state-owned banks. The (United Forum of Bank Unions) UFBU, which is an umbrella body of 9 bank unions has called a strike for 2 days on (15, or 16 March 2021). While mobile internet banking and ATM will remain functional.






Announced by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Union Budget (2021) speech the privatization of two (Public Sector Banks) PSBs as a part of a divestment plan to make (RS 1.75 Lakh crore). The IDBI Bank privatized its selling majority stake to (LIC) by the government in (2019) Also, the government has joined more than 14 (PSBs) in the last 4 years. Conciliation meeting- before additional Chief Labour agency on (March 4,9 or 10) - yield did not any positive result, (PTI) quoted AIBEA (All India Bank Association) general secretary (C H Venkatachalam) as saying.


On this 2 day strike, almost 10 lakh officers of banks and bank employees will participate. Along with (AIBRA), (National Organisation of Bank Officers) NOBO, (All India Bank Officers’ Confederation) AIBOC, (National Organisation of Bank Workers) NOBW, (National Confederation of Bank Employees) NCBE, (Indian National Bank Officers Congress) INBOC, (Bank Employees Confederation of India) BEFI, (National Bank Employees Federation) INBEF, and (All India Bank Officers Association) AIBOA, and for a strike, the other have given call.


Canara Bank has also stated that previously this month it was informed by the IBA (Indian Banks Association) that the (United Forum of Bank Unions) UFBU will give a call for Strike in the banking industry. On (15, or 16 March) for making everyone aware of the matter in the industry, said (Canara Bank). On the days of the proposed strike, the Bank will work the basic steps for Bank’s offices or branches' smooth work. “However, in the event of strike materializing, the functioning of the branches/offices may be impacted,” it added.

 

This week (SBI) said in a filing to the stock exchanges earlier “We inform that we have been advised by Indian Banks Association (LBA) that United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) which comprises 9 major Unions, viz. All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA), Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), Indian National Bank Employees Federation (INBEF), Indian National Bank Officers’ Congress (INBOC), National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) & National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO), has given a call for all India strike by Bank Employees on 15th & 16th March 2021. While Bank has made all arrangements to ensure normal functioning in its branches and offices, it is likely that work in our Bank may be impacted by the strike,”
