Extraordinary Times

While the vaccination drive with Covvaxine and Covishield are being conducted all over the State at selected places there, is news of non-availability of these vaccines in sufficient numbers and quantity thereby halting the vaccination as piecemeal efforts only Report from reliable Media houses state not only the availability issue but at many places like Liluah and Bamangachi in Howrah areas, the vaccination had to be completed with the second dose using the other vaccine, which is definitely a deviation from what was initially recommend by the WHO.

This vaccine is only a trial product consisting of mRNA strains, which as per the manufacturers themselves, need extensive testing on animals and mammals for being recognized as a 100% efficient vaccine & ready for administration on humans.

We had circulated videos from reputed Doctors & Scientists from their original sources &  of the manufacturers and they have indicated that being zoonotic in nature, they will produce antibodies that will destroy the body's own immune cells

As most people act on mob behavior, let them then take the vaccines and if they are bent to take it, then let them get inoculated from any established Clinic or some established Nursing Homes, as the KMC is heard referring the people to the local party run centers, where the volunteers are unable to see the vaccines or are checking for change of needle for inoculation by only an authorized doctor or seasoned compounder, who can perhaps give some hope of health safety and hygiene, but no can guarantee for any cause or effect relationship.

With the country's Covid caseload reaching alarming proportions, reaching almost a 3 lakh mark, & with the number of daily deaths reaching 1493 (two days back), there is an urgent need to strike a balance between pandemic mitigation and public activities. While restrictions in movement and business are already announced by several States the Election jamboree in 8 phases polling for Bengal is likely to yield disastrous results in the human life toll by the first week of May 2021.

The country can ill afford another economic blow with reimposed lockdowns, as it is known to all, that we are yet to get over the financial shocks of the first one.

The health infrastructure is already overstretched in most States and it is a stark reality that cities with hospital beds & oxygen supply have turned scarce and inaccessible. ABP Ananda news reported instances of innumerable suffering patients dying for want of oxygen supply. Durgapur Steel Plant has already sanctioned 1200 MT of Oxygen for Bengal, but ironically the Oxygen produced at these Steel Plants and some other PSUs have already exported more than 1000 MT of oxygen at a premium to Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka & some other countries.

The root cause of this outbreak is attributed to the Kumbh Mela and the Bengal assembly polls. The first 15 days of this month saw Covid cases rise in the State to 49970 with 151 fatalities. There was a move by the C M to club three phases of elections into one, but the ECI rejected the proposal on grounds of not providing additional security and forces as Bengal is known for 'notoriety in elections'. But the ECI imposed restrictions on political campaigns to only 50 persons per political party which itself is again ridiculous!

The other points raised by the senior citizen of the city with high affiliations say the loudspeaker blaring war between political parties at major city intersections creates traffic snarls, which only points to the irresponsible nature of these political dispensations. Moreover, it is my individual view that is there anything innovative or remarkable that these political parties have to boast or blare to the public? It is exposed opportunism. The second point is painting the outer walls of buildings or bordering walls, sticking posters indiscriminately without a concern to cleanliness, hygiene, or concern for the citizen maintaining the same at their own cost.

These extraordinary times perhaps depict a holocaust by Nature or some unexplained source, shaking the foundations of human beings all over the world in every walk of life, and a brief review of the fallout of these extraordinary circumstances are:

1. A huge drawback for the Schoolgoing boys and girls of higher classes. At present they are experiencing a 'tight rope balancing' walk with a futuristic vision on one side and the makeshift examinations based on MCQs, entitled at clearing the Syllabus for these classes only. Where is the scope of comparative merit with other Schools in the country? Will this knowledge be sufficient to get over the other competitive exams like Joint Entrance, GRE, GMAT, or NDA?

2. For the College going students too, they are trying to pursue other online courses right through the lockdowns, and desperately seeking an intern or fresher jobs only to keep them going for the moment. But what about their future plans & aspirations? It will be fulfilled, but time may be a bigger cost.

3. For the youth just employed or in long time employment, it is a time for achieving unrealistic schedules or targets with an off-and-on situation between offline and online activity. Too much time online can hurt their individual income expectations. There are many aspirants experiencing a 'stepping stone' in the job market, without any focus on career or stability.

4. For most employers this can be the time to focus on opportunism, which will ultimately lead to exploitation of the workforce. For small units, it may be cause for concern & worry.

5. For the Integrated Steel Plants or major PSUs these times are extraordinary as with staggering workforce or absenteeism, the productivity cannot guarantee surplus revenue hence units employing a high workforce, are working on staggered production.

For the MSME of Small Scale Units, it is a time to slow down all activities, knowing very well that another struggling year lies ahead and survival is prime over sustenance.

For those affected with the virus, it is a harrowing time as once tested positive, the search for beds may end in a futile exercise. For those not fortunate with care at hand or at their homes, the healthcare system is slowly collapsing & how much help we can get from it is becoming a bigger question.

A known CPI (M) leader, Sri Sitaram Yetchuri's son died of Covid 19 at the age of 45 only. That could mean that the predator does not consider age for its prey.

The plight of those suffering patients in U.P, Gujarat, and some parts of Delhi are that they have to lie in pavements outside these hospitals & nursing homes for want of a bed. The most pathetic & extraordinary situation is that healthcare workers are staring at patient deaths for want of Oxygen supply.

Please also note the developed vaccine under trials, was directed for the first variant of the virus, while the second variant is already creating havoc all over. If you study the WHO site, they have indicated the emergence of a triple strain with a few cases reported from quite a few cities in the country including West Bengal. (see The Hindu dated 21.04.21& 22.04.21).

Under these circumstances, there are extraordinary citizens in our country & states who will line up at polling stations to cast their votes through the EVM.

Is this not another futile exercise to exorcise two established misleaders who only promise, but never keep their commitments either to give us some 'achche din' or eradicating all ills from Society or for a shadow of the past who is now seeing and subconsciously visualizing her own shadow, exactly like that of Banquo, the ghost, which Hamlet saw in his melancholy life. Should we ride again with such exorcised spirits? Why not bring a change with NOTA or submit a unified Memorandum before the Governor of W.B to install a President's in the State for at least one year or to teach a lesson to these politicians by clamping Martial Law in the State for 6 months at least so as to reduce the unstoppable crime against women & children. At least let one section of our Society be clean. (If you want to be doubly sure what the Military can do to stop this menace, then please visit The British Library or the National Library and refer to "The secrets of Administration" as adopted by Pakistan, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. We have already taken an overdose of Democracy, let offenders like Nirav Modi, Mallaya, and the other 20 be ostensibly punished.
