RAILWAYS HAVE ANNOUNCED THAT POWER SUPPLY IN CHARGING PORTS WILL BE CUT IN THE TRAIN FROM 11 PM TO 5 AM

Senior officials said on Tuesday, that Passengers are not allowed to charge their phones using mobile charging stations onboard trains between 11 P.M. and 5 A.M., the railways have decided.

You need to keep your phones fully charged if you're taking an overnight train journey. These steps have been taken for safety measures as there is a hike in fire incidents recently.

“It is a Railway Board instruction for all railways. We have started implementing it from March 16,” CPRO of Western Railway, Sumit Thakur, told PTI.

From March 16, the Western Railway has cut the supply of the charging ports between this period.

In Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express, a fire had broken out recently. A fire had caught in one of the coaches due to a short circuit, and in Ranchi Station, the fire caught in engine of the static goods train.

These instructions are not new. It's a reiteration of earlier orders of the Railway Board, Southern Railway CPRO B Guganesan told PTI.

Mr. Guganesan said “In view of the recent incidents of fire, we have done the needful. It is a precautionary measure and even earlier the Railway Board had issued such orders. The power from the main switchboard for these points will be switched off from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.,” Mr. Guganesan said.

After the fire incident in Bangalore-Hazur Sahib Nanded Express, in 2014 the Commissioner of Railway Safety suggested that the charging stations will get switched off between 11 P.M. to 5 A.M. The orders had been issued to all the rail zones, by the Railway Board.

The Railway officials decide to restrict the orders, the use of charging ports in the trains was taken as a precautionary measure.

At night, the points that are used for charging phones or other electronic devices will get switched off.

There have been reports of minor fire issues because of the heavy charging of electronic gadgets.

On March 13, a coach of Dehradun-bound Shatabdi Express caught fire due to a short circuit. And it happens after the incident of fire broke out, at the Ranchi station.

Carrying inflammable items and smoking items were reported to stop. These are also the cause of the fires onboard trains, the Railways has reported.
