Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa warned people not to go out without wearing masks or without taking any COVID-19 precautions. After the hike in COVID-19 cases, the CM further added that if people don’t want another lockdown in the state then they have to cooperate with them and should take proper precautions. 


After attending meetings with Prime Minister Modi and with other Chief Ministers, CM said “The situation is now in people’s hands. I have instructed the Home Department to strictly enforce rules. If people do not cooperate, we will be forced to consider other stringent measures.”

“The Prime Minister has advised Karnataka to focus on districts where the incidence is high. A special strategy will be worked out for the three districts Bengaluru, Bidar, and Kalaburagi where the caseload is high.” CM said.

Cm declared that wearing masks and maintaining social distance is very compulsory, those who break the rules would be charged a fine. About the night curfew or lockdown, CM further added that the final decision will be taken after one week currently, the government officials are checking out the situation. 

CM said that on setting aside more beds in wards and ICUs for COVID-19 patients, the state has been working on it. There is also a plan to set three COVID-19 care centers in Bengaluru to take care of the situations. The vaccination that is going on would be targeted at nearly three lakh people a day.

CM also said that the vaccination will drive in old age homes, apartments, complexes, and other areas. From the last 15 days, the COVID-19 cases were rising upward. Cm said that the Prime Minister had advised the states to take strict measures so that the situation won’t go out of control.   

“I have assured the Prime Minister that all efforts will be made in Karnataka to control the COVID-19 spike and ensure normalcy. So far, Karnataka has reported around 9.61 lakh COVID-19 cases and more than 12,000 deaths,” the CM said.

From the last 10-days, cases are increasing and, the positivity rate has increased up to 1.65% as of March 15.

“We conducted a review with experts and officers on March 15 and decided to intensify information, education, and communication campaign to create awareness among the public to observe COVID-19 appropriate behavior,” CM said.

CM also announced that large public/political gatherings in open areas have no restrictions. But in closed areas, the maximum number of people attending events was limited up to 200. Those people who attend political, public, religious, and social gatherings need to wear masks and take proper precautions in both closed and open areas, and it’s compulsory.

“We know that lakhs of people congregate during elections and, this cannot be avoided. This is common in the country. We have no restrictions for such gatherings in open spaces. But in closed areas, not more than 200 can attend and, this will be strictly enforced.” CM said

The Health Department has recently issued restricting the number of people in public, political, social, religious gatherings to 200 in closed areas and 500 in open areas. And for birthday parties, funerals, death ceremonies, and other celebrations, the maximum number of people have been restricted to 100 for open areas and 50 for closed areas.
